CANARSIE, BROOKLYN

SITUATION: A new retail building at the edge of an apartment complex turns AN entRANCE into an alleyway.

IDEA: incoRPORATE graphics to minimize ITS visual impact.

1.Everyday route

This 5,200ft² commercial building in Canarsie Brooklyn became possible after a BSA approval allowing a retail building on the apartment complex property. The new building changes the pedestrian route into the apartments. It’s walls turn the original apartment street entrance into an alleyway.

2. from soil to earth

The rear walls of the building were inspired by soil layering found at the site. Covid forced a mid-construction change of material and the graphic turned into a geological diagram of the earth.
